BCAB’s primary mission is to provide services to blind and visually impaired persons to promote their independence.

With that goal in sight, this organization is dedicated to increasing independence and improving our client’s quality of life. With minimal agency support and training, many blind and visually impaired people find that they can live independently and productively in spite of loss.

To achieve this goal, we provide the following…

Transportation/Sighted Guide: Transportation services with a sighted escort are provided to and from medical offices, grocery stores and other essential locations.

Chore: Depending on the needs of the individual, assistance is provided for shopping, mail reading, letter writing and a wide variety of other typical household tasks.

Counseling: This program informs clients about their visual impairment, introduces independence issues, defines resources and alternatives, and promotes self-advocacy.

Life Skills Education: Educational programs and information about community & adaptive resources are utilized to provide practical training in daily living skills. BCAB offers instruction in health & safety, nutrition, consumer awareness, financial planning and etiquette among many other issues.

Support Group: Groups provide a forum for sharing ideas, experiences and information while promoting self-advocacy and clear communication skills.

Talking Books: This program offers books and magazines in Braille, large print, digital and audio formats, for eligible visually impaired and disabled persons.

Housing: Assistance is provided for clients in obtaining suitable housing and managing household needs. Specialized services are tailored to meet the needs of each individual.

For additional information for any of these services or if you know of anyone who would benefit from these services please call our office for assistance at 724-843-1111
